University of Glasgow
The project
Since taking a transfer of over 2,500 student rooms, across a range of locations in 2002, Sanctuary Management Services (SMS) is the primary accommodation partner to the University of Glasgow .
In this contract, SMS established a Special Purpose Vehicle named Glasgow Student Villages. The key to the success and on-going partner relationship was that SMS TUPE transferred over 60 staff from the University through this contract reassignment.
The facilities
Three key sites within the portfolio offer a range of accommodation from standard to ensuite bedrooms.
The accommodation originally consisted of a purpose built, en-suite residential site and older stock. To date, the properties have benefitted from a maintenance and lifecycle reinvestment project of over £10m.
The agreement
SMS provides a broad range of services, which includes cleaning, reception facilities and security provision, as well as all maintenance services.
The University has opted to remain as the student’s landlord, and also provides on-site, out-of-hours pastoral support through resident wardens. There are regular meetings between key SMS and University personnel, through warden and site management teams.
SMS works in close partnership with the University to liaise with external agencies, such as the local fire and rescue services. SMS also participates in warden training events and welcome talks.
On student arrival days both SMS and University wardens are present to ensure a seamless experience for new students.
SMS are very aware that the students living experience forms a critical part of the wider university experience.
